Originally from Herefordshire, I moved to Carlisle in 2015 to manage the local HMV music store.
The move enabled me to focus and continue to grow my passion for music by building connections, and giving artists a platform for their music.
Whilst always being passionate about music, it really kicked in on joining Ourprice in 2002.
At the time Red Hot Chilli Peppers and Blink 182 were personal favourites, although my music knowledge has really progressed and branched out into various genres. From Ourprice I joined HMV and this gave me an opportunity to expand my knowledge further in a rapidly changing industry.
There are so many ways for artists to get their music heard, but nothing beats live performances and the raw feeling of energy from the crowd. I understand as artists you do not always know how your music is being truly received if you are in a studio, behind the mic. You need to see the looks on the audiences faces, hear their reactions.
Music is so important to local communities as it brings people out and gives us moments to enjoy and remember, it's very important to give young, aspiring artists a platform to perform.
It's getting more and more difficult to get ahead or acknowledgment in the music scene and it gives me great pride to help contribute in this area.
Through my Live and Local sets instore at HMV and my work as a trustee and on the board of Harraby Theatre I have grown deep links to artists who want local communities to hear more from them.
As you'd expect with such a love of live music and community I have been lucky to attend many awards and festivals such as The Brit Awards, Global Gathering, Lakefest, Penn Fest, Kendal Calling, Solfest, Bunkfest, Boomtown, Electric Fields, Manchester Psych Fest, Arcane Festival and many, many more
HMV has been a great part of my life and has given me vast knowledge of working with not only local artists, but also major artists as I have organised many PA's over the years including Liam Gallagher and Mel C to name a few. I've also built up an extensive knowledge of the music retail industry overall.
